It’s hard to beat a classic, but everyone appreciates a good remix… That was my thought process when I set out to modify Fujifilm’s Classic Chrome profile on my Fujifilm X-H2. Like most people, I enjoy the original Classic Chrome, but variety is the spice of life. As 2024 drew to a close, I set out to make a film simulation that would give me new enthusiasm for photographing with this old favorite.

I just bought a Fujifilm X-H2 and I’ve been trying to create a film simulation that I can use as a “standard” profile. It needs to look good in all lighting conditions and be relatively flexible. Today’s recipe is my first attempt at such a recipe. Pro Negative 400 will give you unique colors suitable for every day memory making and reduce your need to edit in post.

The Fujifilm recipe I’ve created for you today is called Classic Gold Negative. It’s built on the Classic Negative film simulation. The recipe is free. I made it with the Fujifilm X-H2 and Sigma X-Mount lenses.

This is a new film simulation for Fujifilm cameras, specially for X-Trans III cameras. It's called the Rainy Grain Recipe. This recipe uses Fujifilm’s Classic Chrome Film Simulation and adds lots of contrast and a custom white balance to give it a well balanced and pleasing look, especially in natural light.

When Harman announced Phoenix 200 as one of the first new film stocks in years, people got very excited. The phoenix, a mythical bird reborn continuously from ashes, was a fitting name for the new film as it is a symbol of the rebirth from ruin. The film photography industry was lying in ruins up until a few years ago when it experienced rebirth of its own.

Portra 400 is arguably the most loved film stock of the decade, and it isn’t hard to understand why. The Portra colors are beautiful and it is a very versatile film. Unfortunately, with the price of film inflating considerably (usually over $20/roll), Kodak Portra 400 has become difficult to afford. This Lightroom preset was made with the goal of helping people enjoy the Portra 400 colors without spending 50 to 75 cents per shot

Enjoy this new film simulation for the Ricoh GR III and GR IIIx. It's called Ricoh Superia Summer. This recipe uses Ricoh's Bleach Bypass picture profile and adds lots of contrast and a custom white balance to give you a well balanced and pleasing look to your photos.

Please enjoy this free Lightroom preset based on Kodak's Ektar 100 film. This is my interpretation of the famously saturated Ektar colors. This preset can be applied to most photos as a final edit, and I did my best to create it with a color balance that doesn't require further editing. The sample photos were taken with my Sigma FP and Ricoh GR III.

Kodak Gold 200 Lightroom Preset… I’m releasing another free Lightroom preset based on Kodak’s famous Gold 200 film stock. This preset is not a perfect match, but that is to be expected when trying to make a digital file match the volatility of physical film. The preset is free and I hope you enjoy using it, tweaking it, and making it your own. This preset can be applied to RAW or JPEG photos from any camera.

This is my Classic Chrome recipe for the Ricoh GR III. It is not an attempt to match the Fujifilm recipe exactly, but more my interpretation of what I want to see in Classic Chrome. This film recipe is based on Ricoh’s Positive Film, but features an adjusted hue and ISO fixed at 400.

I’ve been in Athens, Greece with my Ricoh GR III for the last couple days and I’ve been working on a new film simulation. I’m going to call this one Shady Summer Film. It has a cool white balance to balance out the hot summer sun. Most of the photos you’ll see in this article were taken just north of the Victoria Metro Station on the green line in Athens.

Warm yellows and soft blues are highlighted in this new Portra Gold preset. These photos are RAW files shot with various cameras and lenses, everything from full frame to micro four thirds. Being inspired by Fujifilm Provia’s realistic and slightly muted colors, I set out with my Olympus Pen-F, Ricoh GR III, and Sigma FP to produce a film simulation preset that would capture the heat of the summer sun and and haze of the swelteringly June days. This free Adobe Lightroom preset was inspired by the sun washed scenes of summer and its perfect for use with RAW files from just about any camera.

I took my Olympus Pen-F to the park in Albania to work on a new preset called Portra Soft Green. The summer rain has brought out the greenery, the roses, and some marvelous flowering pink trees (I don’t know their name), and I needed a good Lightroom preset to capture the scenes. Portra Soft Green gives a matte color to the greens and allows contrasting colors to shine through.

Having reviewed dozens of images taken with Fujifilm’s Pro 400H film stock, I’ve really grown to love the colors. I’ve been experimenting with recreating the look in Lightroom and I wanted to share my results. The film stock has been hard to match due to the fact that many of the modern sample images were taken on expired film, which results in a variety of color shifts, saturations, and white balances.

I’ve been longing for some rustic and earthen tones in my photography lately, so I set to work trying to develop a recipe for my Ricoh GR III. I originally started with “Negative Film,” but ended up finding the “Retro” picture profile to be a better base. I originally didn’t find “Retro” to be a particularly good foundation for recipes, but over the months, it has grown on me.

I’ve been seeing a Portra 160 film simulation for the Ricoh GR III floating around the internet recently. There are several variations of the recipe featuring slightly different white balance settings. This post is my test of my modified recipe and my attempt to document it for those searching for it in the future.
