Classic Chrome v2 - Film Simulation for Fujifilm Cameras
Classic Chrome v2 - A Modified Take on the Classic Film Simulation for Fujifilm Cameras
It’s hard to beat a classic, but everyone appreciates a good remix… That was my thought process when I set out to modify Fujifilm’s Classic Chrome profile on my Fujifilm X-H2. Like most people, I enjoy the original Classic Chrome, but variety is the spice of life. As 2024 drew to a close, I set out to make a film simulation that would give me new enthusiasm for photographing with this old favorite.
Looking back at my film recipes from last year, I noticed they trended towards the warmer tones. They were generally heavy towards the yellows and reds, except those shot with my Sigma FP. This year, I’m hoping to give the cooler tones some love.
BTW… If you want to see some of my Sigma FP recipes, you can find them here.
This Classic Chrome v2 recipe uses almost all the same settings (white balance, tone curve, etc) as my previous recipe, Pro Negative 400. The key difference of course is the film simulation I used for the foundation. I wanted to see the effect of changing from Pro Neg Hi to Classic Chrome without adjusting anything else (except the grain effect).
Overall, I’m really pleased with the pictures. Its common for me to get the itch to edit some of JPEGs, but with this batch, I didn’t really experience any desire to change the colors or life the shadows. Some of my favorite images are the images of the soccer (futbol) pitch in the sample gallery. The colors are so pleasing, a really nice balance to the palette.
I do think this recipe could be considered an every-day-carry recipe. Its balanced enough to be used in all lighting conditions and the colors aren’t too extreme in any one direction. It has tasteful saturation and balanced contrast.
The example images included in this post are SOOC (straight out of camera) JPEGs and the colors have not been edited in post. I don’t edit the photos because I want to give my readers realistic expectations of what they can expect from the recipe.
