Rainy Grain Film - Film Simulation for Fujifilm Cameras

I’ve been considering picking up a Fujifilm camera for some time now. After working on film simulations for the Ricoh GR III for over a year, I’ve begun to feel I’ve maxed out the possibilities of the Ricoh. But with the wild inflation and hype surrounding most Fuji cameras, I’ve been very hesitant to purchase one. The Fujifilm X100VI is still borderline unobtainable and the X-T50 has been on backorder.

Over the past few months, I’d noticed that there was only one camera that seemed to fly below the inflation radar, and that was the Fujifilm X-H1. When I found a used X-H1 on Ebay for $500, I pressed the “Buy it Now” button and finally joined the Fujifilm cult. It was an exciting moment, at least until the package arrived…

Although I’ve generally had very good experiences buying and selling on Ebay, this particular purchase was a disappointment. The buyer didn’t disclose some damage and disfunction in the camera, so I’m going to end up returning it tomorrow. That said, today is a holiday and the post office is closed, so I’ve had one day to test out a film simulation.

I punched in a random film sim, settings, and a custom white balance and went about shooting. You’re seeing the results of my one day experience in this post.

While I’m not in love with every aspect of this simulation, I really do like the way it renders greens and naturally lit subjects. I would have loved to have had more time to shoot outside, but the cold rain kept me inside the majority of the day.

The colors in these photos are straight out of camera JPEGs, and the colors have not been edited.

I hope you enjoy the recipe!
