As I mentioned in my last post, I was able to pick up a Fujifilm X-H2 just before Christmas. One of the nice things about owning a newer Fujifilm body is that you have access to all the latest film simulations. It’s definitely easier to keep your creative juices flowing when you have a multiplicity of options to fiddle with.

Yesterday, I took my camera out in hopes of producing a recipe similar to one I created previously on my Sigma FP. The recipe was called Kodak Gold Leaf, and you can find a link to it here. The Sigma truly has beautiful colors, perhaps the best I’ve ever seen straight out of a camera, so my X-H2 had its work cut out for it.

I started with the new Reala Ace profile in the film simulation menu. Fujifilm describes Reala Ace as follows, “Faithful color reproduction with hard tonality suitable for various scenes.

Some people have criticized Reala Ace because it doesn’t have a super unique color signature like Classic Chrome or Eterna Bleach Bypass, but for my purposes, which is mainly recipe creation, it offers a nice foundation for further adjustments.

I’ve enjoyed the results I’ve gotten from Gold Mist 200. Unfortunately, the weather here has been pretty stable, so I didn’t get the chance to test the recipe out in a variety of lighting conditions. If I had to change one thing (based on personal choice), I would probably raise the shadows by 1 stop.

If your Fujifilm camera doesn’t have the Reala Ace film simulation, I believe you could get similar results shooting with the Provia or Standard Fuji profile.

The colors in these photos are straight out of camera JPEGs, and the colors have not been edited.

Happy photographing!
